A message from Jesse Waites, AMC Boston Chapter Chair:
The Appalachian Mountain Club is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a 2,000+ mile relay from Virginia to Maine, where members and volunteers pass a pennant hand-to-hand across trails and waterways.
It started on March 14, and has been moving northward through the various AMC regions, led by local chapters and the people who know these places best.
The idea behind the relay goes all the way back to the AMC’s founding in 1876, when people came together to explore the outdoors and learn from each other. Now, 150 years later and 90,000 members strong, this event honors that history while inviting people to be part of what comes next.
The relay hits the Boston area in June, so this is a great opportunity for us to get involved. There’ll be hikes, paddles, and other local events depending on the route, along with opportunities to just show up and be part of this historic event as it passes through!
To join in, check out the full list of local events at: https://www.outdoors.org/amc150/. Whether you get outside for a segment or just stop by an event, it’s an awesome way to connect with the broader AMC community and be part of a once-in-a-generation celebration.
Get Ready to Ride: Bike Rally Returns June 6
As an AMC Boston member, I’ve a plethora of activity options to choose from and one of my favorites is cycling. There’s something uniquely rewarding about spending a summer day on the road with a great group of people, taking on rolling hills, scenic backroads, and that feeling of accomplishment after a long ride.
That’s exactly why I’m excited for riders to experience the 46th Annual Boston Chapter Bike Rally returning to Lexington on Saturday, June 6!
Whether you’re an experienced road cyclist looking for a challenge or someone who simply wants an excuse to get outside, ride scenic roads, and meet great people, this event is built for you. One of the best parts of the rally is that it is designed for a wide range of riders. You needn’t be training for the Tour de France to join!
The AMC Bike Rally is not just another organized ride. It’s a full day built around community, adventure, and the kind of early summer energy that makes you remember why you love biking in the first place.
