The AMC's Carter Notch Hut is the destination for this family adventure weekend. The Hut sits at the end of a moderate 3.8 mile hike in along the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail. It is surrounded by the towering cliffs of Wildcat and Carter Dome on either side, and there is a small lake just below the Hut. The Carter Notch Hut, which was built in 1914, has a main lodge with two detached bunk houses. Hiking there is a great way to introduce your kids to backpacking without the added work of bringing along a tent.
Stacia Biel has led over 25 adventure travel trips with the AMC, including family trips to the Canadian Rockies, Yellowstone National Park, Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island, and most recently to Iceland. She is the former chair of the AMC Adventure Travel Committee and a member of the Boston Chapter.
