The AMC will be offering four hikes celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Middlesex Fells with co-leaders from the Friends of the Fells who are experts on the history and nature of the Middlesex Fells. The Fells was established in 1894 as the first state reservation and Metropolitan park thanks to the vision of AMC leaders and Charles Elliot, partner of Frederick Law Olmstead.
Please join us in celebrating the 125th anniversary of the creation of the Middlesex Fells on Sunday, June 2nd from 1:00-4:00pm for a historical hike. Easy-to-moderate 4 mile round trip to Wright's Tower. Meeting point will be parking lot at Medford High School, 489 Winthrop Street. Start time will be at 1:15pm. Bring water, trail snacks. On Monday, June 3rd, we will ride the Norwottuck Rail Trail, from Belchertown to Northampton and return. About 25 miles. Pace about 10-12 miles per hour. Lunch options in Northampton. Registration required.

13 mile ride through Weston and Wellesley. Helmet required. Rain cancels. Meet at 6:00p for a 6:15p start at the Duck Feeding Parking Lot on the Newton/Weston line at the intersection of Route 30 and Route 128 . From Route 128, take exit 24 to Route 30. The first traffic light West of Route 128 on Route 30 is River Road to the north. The second right on River Road is the access road to the Duck Feeding Area Parking Lot.
Come to our Wednesday evening (4 pm - dark, June 5 - Aug 28) pond socials! These are informal get-togethers at a pond in Concord (near Walden Pond) to practice paddling skills, roll whitewater kayaks and play around.
Everyone is welcome to join us with their own boat! We have WW kayak rentals for $10. You must be able to transport the kayak from the boathouse to the pond and back (approx. 5 miles).
Meet at Bedford Library, 7 Mudge Way at 5:45 for a 6:00pm sharp start. Moderate 13-15mph on a 20-22 mile ride through Bedford/Carlisle Group ride. Helmet, bright clothes, and bike in good condition required. Rain cancels.
Join us this summer for our Up on a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) series! We are eager to get out on the water, socialize, get to know others who love paddle boarding, and to meet and introduce new people to this fabulously fun sport.
Join AMC Boston Young Members as we kick off the summer with a weekend of outdoor fun at AMC's Cold River Camp in North Chatham, NH. In true summer camp style, a variety of hiking and other activities will be offered each day as we explore the Evans Notch region of the White Mountains. Hikes will be offered each day for all experience levels. After hiking cool off with a swim, or return to camp to relax in the main lodge where dinner will be served. Enjoy socializing after dinner around the bonfire, or with games or other activities in the lodge.
Meet at the parking lot next to the Bikeway Source, 111 South Rd, Bedford for a 30 mile intermediate paced ride through back roads of Bedford, Concord, and Carlisle.
Ride will start promptly at 10AM, please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to be ready to ride at 10.
In case of bad weather, the ride will be cancelled by 8AM

This trip is ONLY available to participants of the Spring Hiking Program. This is a 6 mile round-trip hike to Jennings Peak. The Sandwich Mountain Trail and a small spur trail will take us to the peak in 3 miles with 2100 feet of elevation gain. Jennings Peak has a great view to the southeast. During the trip, participants will have a chance to ask their leaders and co-leaders questions about hiking and to get some extra tips on equipment, preparation, and hiking technique. You will also have the opportunity to practice crossing a stream as part of this hike.
Experience the excitement of whitewater kayaking in a fun and supportive environment with an outstanding group of paddlers.
Rescheduled Earth Day Walk, which was canceled because of the weather. Meet in the parking lot of 381 Elliot Street, Newton. Please arrive by 9:15am for a prompt 9:30am start. This year, in addition to partnering with the Boston Chapter Conservation Committee, the Southeastern Massachusetts Chapter will be leading along with us. Geologist, Les Tyrala will be our special guest speaker. Join us as we explore the geology and history of the Hemlock Gorge Reservation on a slow-paced, interpretive two-mile walk. No dogs. Directions from Route 128 (also known as Interstate 95): Take exit number 19 B, Highland Avenue, towards Newton. Proceed to the 2nd traffic light and turn left onto Oak Street. Proceed to 1st traffic light and turn left onto Chestnut Street. Proceed to 1st traffic light and turn left onto Elliot Street. The parking lot for 381 Elliot Street is on your right.
We will walk the popular Caryl Trail to an old mill site. Along the way, we will use magnifying glasses to see what lives under fallen logs and along the forest floor. We may also see some bird life including northern orioles and hawks. The walk is appropriate for all ages. From the high point of the trip we will have a view of the Boston skyline on a clear day. Please bring water, sun screen and insect repellent. Wear good shoes or hiking boots.
The 41st annual AMC Boston Chapter Bicycle Rally will be held at Verrill Farm in Concord on Saturday, June 8, 2019. It is a wonderful opportunity for cyclists of all levels to get together to begin the summer bike season. Come help us celebrate.
This year there will be rides from 16 to 50 miles on beautiful rolling terrain. After the rides, riders can enjoy an outdoor happy hour with appetizers, beer, wine, and soft drinks followed by dinner.
Dinner will be served under a tent on the grounds. We will have a sumptuous dinner with vegetarian option.
Join us for a hike to the summit of Mt. Tecumseh (4,003'), the lowest of the NH 48 Four Thousand Footers. We will take the Tecumseh trail from the Waterville Vally Ski resort for a 5.2-mile out-and-back hike with approximately 2,300' of elevation gain. This is an excellent starter hike for individuals beginning their pursuit of 'the NH 48'. Weather permitting, we will have great views of Waterville Valley from the summit.
This trip is ONLY available to participants of the Spring Hiking Program. Summits aren't the only rewarding hike destinations! Expand your hiking experience with a trip to Thoreau Falls. This 10.7 mile hike will feature a visit to scenic Ethan Pond, and culminate with a relaxing midhike break at Thoreau Falls before returning to the trailhead. The waterfall is long, powerful, and set in a wonderfully remote and pleasing setting, with fine views to nearby mountains, making it a great place to stop!
Kick off the summer in style with a classic loop over Mts. Morgan and Percival. We will plan a leisurely-to-moderate pace over these peaks, with plenty of time to drink in the views and explore the summits if the weather cooperates. This 5.5 mile, 1500' elevation gain hike includes ladders, cliffs and caves - participants should be comfortable with some exposure. This is a great opportunity to dust off your gear and start the 2019 season off right. Optional dinner with the group after the hike concludes.

Head north on Rte. 3 toward Nashua, NH. and at the state line continue on the Everett Tpk. Take Exit 11, turn left onto Continental Blvd and then right at the first cross street onto Amherst Rd. Are you an experienced AMC hiker and curious about how volunteer-led AMC hiking and backpacking activities are governed? The Boston Chapter's Hiking/Backpacking Committee meets monthly to handle such matters as overseeing the chapter's hundreds of hiking/backpacking leaders and leader candidates, coordinating educational programs, administering our finance, setting policy, etc. Interested guests are welcome to sit in. Join AMC Boston Young Members (20s/30s) to volunteer for trail work in the Middlesex Fells Reservation! We'll be partnering with the Friends of the Fells to perform a variety of trail maintenance tasks, potentially including brushing in, brushing out, trash pick-up, debris/small-blowdown removal, among other tasks. Specific tasks will be determined closer to the date. Meeting location will be sent to participants a few days in advance of the event. After trailwork, we can grab a drink at a local spot if folks are interested.
