Few trails match the rugged beauty of the Mahoosucs and none in such a short distance. We'll start our adventure near the banks of the Androscoggin river in Gorham. Most of the trek will be along the concurrent Mahoosuc Trail and the Appalachian Trail, in the section often referred to as the most difficult of the 2,190-mile granddaddy of long-distance trails. But the trek is not without rewards; you'll pass from NH to ME along the way, summit some of the most beautiful mountains that no one has heard of, and travel through lush backwoods.
Elizabeth Ryan is a four-season hiking and backpacking leader with the AMC's Boston Chapter as well as the coordinator for the chapter's Spring Hiking Program. She has completed the New Hampshire 4000 footers, hiked in the Baxter park area and explored some of the glaciated North-west peaks. Upcoming trips include hiking in the Scottish Highlands and Iceland.
Alex enjoys hiking in all seasons. While best known for fast-paced single day, multi-peak mega-hikes and gnarly back country bushwhacks, he will enjoy sharing his love for the mountains just about anywhere, with hikers at all ability levels.
An avid outdoorsman for many years, Jim has completed the NEHH and a couple mega-hikes, bagged a few 14ers, cycled internationally, and paddles. But he really enjoys the opportunity to share these adventures with others, encouraging their awe of nature and expanding their confidence and abilities.
