Explore the majestic islands of Lake Champlain by bike with options for boating, swimming and hiking. Nestled between the Adirondacks in New York and the Green Mountains in Vermont, Lake Champlain is the sixth largest lake in the US and boasts 71 islands. We'll explore the islands from our home base just outside of Burlington, Vermont, spending 3 nights camping on the lake in Grand Isle State Park.
We'll experience the beauty of the islands by bike, traveling over rolling terrain as we pass farms, wineries and mom-and-pop shops. We'll cycle across a causeway in the middle of the lake and hop on a bike only ferry! We'll stop along the way to sample some of the local offerings including the famous maple creemee (ice cream with maple syrup). Routes will consist of a mix of trails and roads. All rides will be moderate distance and moderate pace (max 40 miles/day).
We'll have the option to end the trip with a day exploring Burlington or a hike, possibly Camel's Hump on the mainland. Tent camping with full facilities including showers. 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners will be provided. Cost for the trip is $90 members, $90 non-members. Please plan to bring extra funds for optional boat rentals, bike ferry and treats.
