Mt Washington and Mt Monroe

Trip dates: Saturday, July 1, 2017 12:00 AM

Join us for a single-day hike of scenic Monroe and Washington. Weather permitting, we will have fantastic views. Washington is the highest peak in the White Mountains at 6'288 feet. Both peaks will be over 4,000 feet for those who are looking to hike the 4,000 footers. This will be a loop hike and we will hike the Ammonoosuc and Jewell trails. This hike is not recommended for beginners as one of the sections is extremely steep and rough and can prove quite arduous to many hikers, particularly to those with limited trail-walking experience. It will involve many rock steps, a short ladder, and will follow cairns directly up some rock slabs (which will be slippery when wet). We will break along the trail and stop at the summit for a while to shop/eat/observe the views. Join us on this excursion for good company. This trip is cross-posted in hiking/backpacking and young members. Stats: Total round trip is 10.47 miles and roughly 4,435 of elevation gain. The pace will be a moderate pace around 1.5-2 mph.
