Look, we totally get it. Hiking on an unmaintained trail is such a downer, and so is summiting Mt. Isolation. We have the solution! Join us for a day of group trail maintenance and a long journey to the summit of Mt. Isolation, the second shortest peak on the list of forty-eight 4,000 footers. If you're working on a list that requires trail work (48x4, Trailwrights 72), this is an opportunity to progress towards that goal.
Your leaders are AMC Trail Adopters, with WFR and AWFA certifications. Under their guidance, you'll learn how to clear out water bars, prune shrubbery and take detailed trail maintenance notes, plus (weather pending!) you'll get to tick off another peak on your list.

The trip up Isolation is a muddy, relentless haul, so we're looking for strong hikers with experience covering distances of 15+ miles. You should be comfortable with a heavy pack (we'll have shared group gear including tools, plus you'll need to carry 2+ liters of water and food).
Basic three-season hiking gear is required plus: long sleeved shirt, long pants (no shorts!), boots that cover the ankles, work gloves to protect your hands, safety glasses or other eye protection. Tools will be provided. Gear is likely to get muddy and/or ripped; durability is more important than light weight.
Jon finished a round of the New England Hundred Highest just before heading off to the Southwest for four years. He's thrilled to be back in New England and working seriously on the winter 4000-footers. Other fun had in the meantime includes the Pikes Peak Marathon and a rim-to-rim-to-rim run of the Grand Canyon. Goal-oriented but interested in keeping things safe and fun.
