This trip is part of the 2017 Spring Hiking Program, and is open to program participants only. Registration for this trip will be open after the first day of class in April.
Join the leaders on an intermediate trip to Greenleaf hut, and from there to hike one of the most beautiful ridges in the White Mountains!
While this trip is intended for SHP participants, it is rigorous by nature. You are a good fit for this trip if you are signing up for trips that gradually increase in difficulty level, distance, and elevation gain. A good rule of thumb is planning hikes at least every few weeks, with one trip at least 2/3 of the distance and elevation gain within a few weeks of this trip.
There are two different routes for Sunday under consideration for this trip and the leaders will make a call about which route to take based upon a number of factors.
Greenleaf hut offers great access to the Franconia ridge and other hikes in the area. We plan to hike to the hut on Saturday morning (3 mi), drop our bags, then head out for a hike for the rest of this summer day, most likely to cover the Franconia Ridge, including Mt. LaFayette and Mt. Lincoln, then back to the hut. Depending on timing, we may be able to also tag Mt. Liberty.
Saturday evening, we will be treated to a delicious and nutritious dinner prepared by the energized Hut Croo and then we will try to watch the sunset together, weather permitting. The Croo will also provide a nourishing breakfast for us before we set out on our second day of hiking.
Options on Sunday include hiking out 4 miles to Mt. Garfield and back, then to the cars, or if the group feels like something lighter, we may do a shorter hike.
