This is a joint Family and Hiking/Backpacking trip. We will get an early start Saturday morning and hike 3.4 miles with 2450', 2" elevation gain to Liberty Spring tentsite. This is a modification from our earlier plans to go to Ethan Pond which is booked solid. We will hike a moderate incline at first. As we approach the campsite, the trail becomes steeper and more rocky, basically more difficult. After making camp, ambitious hikers are welcome to attempt to summit the nearby Mt. Liberty (4459', 0.6 miles round trip) and Flume (4328', 2.8 miles roundtrip). We will hike out Sunday morning and may go to a nearby restaurant for lunch.
$15 adults/$10 children includes dinner (rice noodles in a mild curry sauce with optional sweet sausages), dessert (very chocolaty pudding or no-bake oatmeal cookies), and Thru-Hiker Breakfast (Honey buns and an oatmeal mix with dried apples, raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar) as well as homemade breakfast bars, coffee and cocoa. Lunch and snacks are on your own. Each family will pay additional $3 for parking if they do not have a WMNF sticker. There is also a $10 per person fee for the tentsite.
