Have you ever wondered what's it like to stand on the summit of Mount Everest, and what's on the climber's mind? Or what it's like to tread through the blinding whiteness in minus 50 degrees in Antarctica day after day? This person, Lei Wang, grew up as an un-athletic book-nerd who considered walking a few blocks in the city during her first winter in Boston a daunting adventure. Lei is also the first Asian-American to climb the highest peak on all seven continents, including Mount Everest, and to ski to the North and South poles. What made her decide to take on such challenges? How did she make such a dramatic lifestyle transformation? Come to see what she saw on her journey, to hear what thoughts kept her going at the hardest time.
She will also bring her latest book, After the Summit: New Rules for Reaching Your Peak Potential in Your Career and Life.In this book, her contrarian advice on success reveals that what she learned while earning an MBA at Wharton School of Business and in her high-tech jobs won't work if you want a career that is fulfilling and pushes you to your peak potential. Julie most enjoys leading challenging backpacks as well as fast-paced, full-day ridge traverses in summer and fall in the lesser-travelled corners of NH & ME. In winter she leads day hikes and backpacks in NH & ME and can be found helping out at the Boston Winter Hiking Program. She also coordinates the AMC Boston Slideshow Series & Potlucks at AMC's Joy St Auditorium each month.
