Join us for a winter day hike to Mount Greylock - the highest point in Massachusetts. At 3,491ft tall you can see as far as 90 miles away with the possibility of views of Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, and even Connecticut!
The planned route takes us up the eastern slopes of the mountain for a round trip of approximately 8 miles and 2,600 feet of elevation. The climbs will be steady and at times steep. We will maintain a sustainable pace allowing everyone to continue moving steadily up the mountain.
The hike is open to graduates of the Winter Hiking Program (or equivalent) and those with existing winter experience. You should have been hiking previously this winter and be in shape to spend all day on the trail. Insulated winter boots, snowshoes and microspikes (or crampons) are required along with standard winter hiking gear (link below).
You do not need to be an AMC Member to join, but you will need to create a free online profile to register. Due to current travel restrictions for Massachusetts, we can only accept MA state residents on this hike. We will comply with Governor Baker's order, effective November 6, to wear facemasks indoors and outdoors even when social distancing is maintained. We strongly recommend you bring spare masks in case you want to change during the hike.
To address unforeseen challenges such as: adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
