Join us for a Skin & Ski at Berkshire East in western Mass. This area offers 950' vertical and a reliable snow base. For those new to uphill travel, there will be volunteer instruction available to teach basics on transitioning, attaching skins, climbing techniques, and heat management. We will make multiple trips up and down the mountain, practicing transitions and getting a great workout. Note that rentals are NOT available - you must have or borrow gear.
Participants need to be capable of hiking at least 2,400 vertical feet (at moderate grade) and spending the day outside in winter. Your downhill ability must be at least advanced-intermediate (blue and black trails). You should master downhill skiing before learning uphill, particularly if you intend on taking this skill into the backcountry. We will follow Covid19 travel restrictions and AMC protocols. We will maintain distance and wear masks in the parking lot and base near the lodge and when helping people with their gear. The cost for this event will be $15 for an uphill pass.
