Come out to Waterville Valley with Mike and Jim and put your backcountry ski skills to good use on this 11 mile / 1500 vertical foot gain route that goes out on the Greeley Pond trail, up the steeper and more remote Kancamagus Brook trail - HEY LOOK AT THOSE GREAT VIEWS - and then back down the mellower Livermore Trail/Road. This is an advanced trip that will likely take all day. You need to have enough backcountry ski experience to handle some steeper sections and variable conditions, and we recommend metal edged backcountry skis. See link below for other gear you'll want for this trip.
Please be aware that our route, meeting place and time may need to be modified to address adverse weather, trail conditions, or excessive crowding.
Mike Barry is a reformed alpine skier who leads multi day XC Ski tours in Maine, Quebec, Norway and the Whites with the Boston Chapter & Adventure Travel Committees. His favorite places to ski are Norway for BC touring (though Maine is close!) and downhill in the French Alps (now on Telemark skis). Mike has been involved in the Club as a Boston Chapter Chair, Club Board of Directors and is currently on the Adventure Travel Committee, and is an active chapter bike and ski leader.
Jim Hutchinson got hooked on backcountry skiing doing day trips in the foothills of the Tetons in Jackson Hole, as well as week-long tours to the 10th Mountain Huts in Colorado. He thinks New England is an ok place to ski as well, and he is working on becoming a leader for both Hiking/Backpacking and Skiing.
