Celebrate the beginning of the 2020-2021 winter season by joining us on a (somewhat) early winter hike to one of the best views in the Whites, Mt Garfield. With clear views of both Franconia Ridge and the Presidentials, views could be spectacular.
This hike is for seasoned winter hikers who are familiar with and have access to snowshoes, crampons and ice axes, which will be required of all who join us. Consider bringing lighter weight traction as well - we will make a decision at the trailhead on crampons vs. microspikes. You must have all the regular hiking essentials, including headlamps for the return.

Joe is one of the Boston Chapter's most experienced and active trip leaders - his summit visits number in the quadruple digits. Included among the many outings he leads each year for the Chapter's Hiking/Backpacking Committee are the single-day Presidential Range traverse on the summer solstice, and the Map & Compass course in the fall.
An avid outdoor person for many years, Jim has completed the NEHH and a couple mega-hikes, bagged a few 14ers, cycled internationally, and paddles. But he really enjoys the opportunity to share these adventures with others, encouraging their awe of nature and expanding their confidence and abilities.
