FREE POTLUCK & SLIDESHOW SERIES
Can hikers contribute meaningful data on amphibians, reptiles and insects of the White Mountains? Yes you can!
While the White Mountains have been studied by scientists since the 1800s, the less charismatic species like amphibians, reptiles, and insects typically receive less attention from the average outdoor enthusiast. With a small research team of professional biologists, students, and volunteers, Scott Smyers has been studying these species in and around five of the ponds or "lakes" high in the White Mountains since 2007. Join us as Scott gives us a tour of the diversity of amphibians and insects inhabiting these alpine ponds while inspiring us to become the next generation of hiker-naturalists to collect data in some of the most interesting habitat in New England.

Julie enjoys leading challenging backpacks as well as fast-paced, full-day ridge traverses in summer and fall throughout NH & ME. When not leading in the summer, she is often doing trail work on her adopted trail, Air Line, on Mt. Adams' Durand Ridge. In winter, she is obsessively x-c skiing wherever there is snow, and leads winter days hikes and backpacks in NH & ME. She also coordinates the Boston Slideshow Series at the AMC Headquarters in Charlestown.
