Join us for an intermediate cross country ski day trip on scenic groomed trails at Waterville Valley of 15-25 km at a 4-6 km/hr moving pace. The leaders may split the group per skiers relative speeds. Beginner/novice skiers are also welcome, but should self-take a Waterville Valley ski school group lesson in the morning and then ski with the group after lunch. Limited to 10 experienced x-c skiers.
Gear list: You should be ready for a wide variety of conditions ranging from warm and moist to windy and cold; all clothing should be made of synthetic materials or wool/smartwool. Clothing: Polypro base layer, insulating layer and outer wind resistant layer. Use an extra or thicker layers if you run cold. Fleece or wool hat, thin and heavier gloves and face mask/neck warmer/scarf plus sunglasses/goggles and lip/face balm. Carry in fanny pack/small daypack 1 liter fluids, spare gloves, warm jacket such as down vest or jacket, lunch or snacks and ski scraper. Optional items: ski waxes if using waxable skis, pocket knife, headlamp, hand/foot warmers, personal first aid kit.
Mike Barry is a reformed alpine skier who leads multi day XC Ski tours in Maine, Quebec, Norway and the Whites with the Boston Chapter & Adventure Travel Committees. His favorite places to ski are Norway for BC touring (though Maine is close!) and downhill in the French Alps (now on Telemark skis). Mike has been involved in the Club as a Boston Chapter Chair, Club Board of Directors and is currently on the Adventure Travel Committee, and is an active chapter bike and ski leader.
