Join AMC leader David Loutzenheiser as he travels through three trips over three years on ski tours in Scandinavia. Though Norway, Sweden, and Finland are adjacent countries, the ski culture is varied, unique, and stunning scenery. The presentation will highlight the diverse trails, views of northern lights, a night in some of the many back country huts, sauna's, eating reindeer, and more. Finland: The Border to Border ski tour is an annual event that skis across Finland from near the Russian border to Sweden. It's a 7-day tour with distances each day as long as 80km and totaling 420km. Norway: Classic ski tour through Jotenheimen and Breheimen national parks, steep uphills, and expansive downhills over glaciers staying in remote huts and lodges. Sweden: Touring 100km above the Arctic Circle, this tour follows the Kungsledden, one of the key long-distance trails in the country. The tour passes by the highest peaks in the country and through remote valleys. Potluck: Please arrive with your contribution between 6:30-6:45 pm. Homemade salads and main courses are always welcome, takeout & store-bought goodies are equally welcome:) Serving spoons, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, napkins, and drink pitchers will be supplied. There is a kitchen to re-warm food or prep (stovetop, oven, 2 microwaves, sink & fridge). Please bring your own cook pots for the stovetop. HELPFUL TIP: There is a Whole Foods store conveniently located across from the Community College T Stop on Austin St (in the Bunker Hill Mall) for last-minute food pickups!Directions:

Julie enjoys leading challenging backpacks as well as fast-paced, full-day ridge traverses in summer and fall throughout NH & ME. When not leading in the summer, she is often doing trail work on her adopted trail, Air Line, on Mt. Adams' Durand Ridge. In winter, she is obsessively x-c skiing wherever there is snow, and leads winter days hikes and backpacks in NH & ME. She also coordinates the Boston Slideshow Series at the AMC Headquarters in Charlestown.
