Family President's Day Weekend at AMC's Noble View Outdoor Center in the Pioneer Valley, about 1-1/2 hours west of Boston. Activities include hiking, snow shoeing, x-c skiing, and family 'snow fun' like sledding or making snow people! The accommodations are rustic, but comfortable and cozy, heated by wood stoves. The twin beds have mattresses, but we bring pillows, sheets, and blankets or sleeping bags. We need to be flexible regarding sleeping arrangements which may be co-ed to keep families together and some kids will be in sleeping bags on the floor. A full bath house with hot showers are within a short walk from the cabin. We all help with meal prep and clean-up in our communal/family style kitchen and dining area.
I love the beauty of the mountains, the social camaraderie, and the physical challenge that hiking brings. BK, Before Kids, I was a co-leader with the HB committee, but when my boys, now 4.5 yrs and 1.5 yrs, came along I shifted gears to the Family Committee. As a family, we have always done a LOT of camping. Now that their legs are getting longer and stronger, we are throwing in more and more hiking. We love sharing our love of the outdoors in all it's versions with other families!
