INTRO TO AT (ALPINE TOURING) SKIING

In support of the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to minimize the risks to the most vulnerable among us, AMC will immediately begin the process of temporarily closing all lodging and foodservice facilities and suspending all in-person staff and volunteer led programming through June 3.

Trip dates: Sunday, January 26, 2020 12:00 AM

Learn to use AT (Alpine Touring) ski equipment for uphill travel in a safe learning environment.

If you are looking for some instruction on how to use AT skis, and to learn the basics of skinning and uphill travel, this trip will meet those needs. We will go to Loon Mtn. ski area in Lincoln, NH where instruction will be provided. Topics covered include AT gear basics, setting up for skinning, how to skin efficiently, transitions (skinning-to-skiing, and skiing-to-skinning), as well as thermal and nutrition management. The idea is to provide an opportunity for people to learn the basics of backcountry ski travel in a safe and controlled environment.

A purchase of a $20 ticket at Loon Mountain will be required. Participants will also need AT ski equipment, appropriate winter clothing, and a day pack to carry water, food and extra layers.
