Join us as we celebrate the beginning of fall in New England. We will explore 6 miles of the trails at this Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick. This is an easy walk along trails that skirt the Charles River, glacial hills and numerous ponds and waterfalls. We will start our walk promptly at 10:00 and keep a leisurely pace of approximately 2 mph. The elevation gain is 300 feet. You should bring snacks and/or lunch, water, layers appropriate for the weather, sunscreen and sturdy hiking shoes. Depending on the conditions, the trails may be wet in places.
The walk is expected to take three hours. After the walk, those who wish can meet at the Charles River Coffee House in South Natick for refreshments. We will send out an email reminder with information on where to meet and any weather-related changes a few days before the hike to all registered participants.
Mass Audubon requires that we provide them with a head count of the size of our group so registration is required. There are restroom facilities in the visitors center. There is a charge for use of the trails if you are not a member of Mass Audubon. The fee is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for seniors (65+).
I began leading bike trips for the AMC in 1990 and led for ten years before taking a break. When I became active with the Forty Plus Committee I decided to start leading again. I took a refresher leadership course and Wilderness First Aid and now I am certified as a cross-country ski and bike leader. I have met many wonderful leaders and trip participants and Forty Plus has become one of my most enjoyable retirement activities.
