Shining Sea to Martha's Vineyard

In support of the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, AMC has closed all lodging and food service operations until July 1. Trip dates: Sunday, September 29, 2019 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Our trip starts at Shining Sea bike trail which we ride 11 miles to the ferry at Wood's Hole. Then do a 42 mile loop around MV, stopping for lunch at the iconic Larsen's Fish Market ( in Menemsha, followed by a ride to Edgartown for ice cream at Mad Martha's. We return to Vineyard Haven for the ferry back and finally the 11 miles back Shining Sea Bikeway to our cars. The total ride distance is around 64 miles.

The pace for this ride is intermediate at 12 - 14 miles per hour. Please do not sign up for this ride if you cannot maintain a pace of 12-14 miles per hour for 2+ hours without stops.

The start of Shining Sea bike path is at Depot Road, Falmouth MA. If you cannot locate this, you can also use "13 County Rd, North Falmouth, MA".

We will meet at the parking lot at the start of the trail. Parking is free but limited. Please carpool to save space. Be at the parking lot no later than 8:00AM and ready to ride at 8:15AM - we cannot wait.

Participants are responsible for own food and transport costs.

At Larsen's and Mad Martha, we will stop for food. Feel free to bring your own lunch and snacks if you prefer. If anyone is interested we can order from Larsen in advance.

The plan for this ride is to go as one group; if folks want to go ahead that's fine, but the pace for this ride is 12-14 mph. If you are wary about the speed please don't RSVP.

Below is the full map. This will be self-guided tour, even though we will try to stay together as a group. Bring GPS device, phone with navigation apps, or cue sheets for the routes you plan to ride. We will not provide them.

Costs for the ferry with Steamship Authority is $8.50 one way per person, $4 one way for bike. You do not need to buy tickets in advance, but recommend you buy the round trip tickets at Woods Hole.

Rain, hurricane, inclement weather cancels event but it may be rescheduled.
