The fall hawk migration is one of the great wonders of the natural world. Join us 12:30 pm Sunday to hike Pack Monadnock and enjoy one of New England's best spots to watch the migration - the Pack Monadnock
Raptor Observatory on the summit of Pack Monadnock in Miller State Park in Peterborough, NH (https://harriscenter.org/conservation-research/pack-monadnock-raptor-obs...).
Every autumn thousands of raptors pass overhead on their way to southern wintering grounds - a sight to be seen.
We will hike the more challenging Wapack Trail, 1.4 miles to the summit of Mt. Pack Monadnock (2,288 ft.) and take the easier Marion Davis Trail, 1.4 mi, down. The route is a total of ~ 1000 ft of elevation gain. We will go at a moderate pace.
On the summit we will meet up with AMC Families from Worcester, Berkshire, and Connecticut chapters who will take alternate trails up the mountain (see trail map https://www.nhstateparks.org/getmedia/76e1735a-a06e-4cec-b96f-944d56bea9...) for a mid- afternoon picnic (please bring something to share) and to see the hawks. There will be a naturalist as well to provide information on the hawk migration! We will also have time to explore the summit. The views of Mt. Monadnock and the valley are great and there is a fire tower to climb as well! For questions contact Clay Hobart at firstname.lastname@example.org or ?(978) 257-2080?.
