BC Touring at it's best!
Discover the remote Maine woods on true ski adventure. We'll be based at West Branch Pond Camps within the AMC's 70,000 acre reserve east of Greenville, Maine. We will BC ski on unbroken trails, winding up the White Cap Mtn ridge and through hills and woods on a trails ranging from wide roads and open ponds to narrow trails and some bushwacking.
We rate the skiing on this trip at advanced. We will be skiing up to 10-12 miles with vertical of up to 2000'-2500' per day on mostly ungroomed trails; though some of the approach mileage may be packed out or even tracked, there will be bushwhacking sections and probably some steep sections in deep snow; climbing skins (at least "kicker ones") are required. You should be prepared and able to traverse steep ravines and narrow snow bridges across streams. New from last year, since some trails have been cleared of brush and if there are snow bridges across ravines, we will be able to do a traverse of some of the bowls! As you all know, conditions in the backcountry can be highly variable. We recommend metal edged, double camber skis of approximately a 67mm-57mm-62mm profile, a pair +10mm in all dimensions may be beneficial in event snow is very deep. We should be ready to expect variable snow and weather conditions including extremely cold weather and potential ice.

Our accommodation will be in cozy and rustic West Branch Pond Camps in winterized cabin #9, which has 6 beds, plus space for two cots if we need them. Amenities are cozy warm heat with wood stoves, a bath house with showers and toilets and hearty local cuisine, served family style in the kitchen. Food allergies and vegetarians can be accommodated, though strict vegans cannot be accommodated by the group menus.

Of course, you can extend the trip by booking directly with West Branch Pond Camps. For more information see the trip brochure at the link below.

For driving directions, we meet at Northwoods Outfitters, 5 Lily Pond Rd, Greenville, Maine on 2/20 at 1200. We will convoy together to the remote WBPC from there. Contact the leader for further guidance. .
