Join us for a moderately-paced conditioning hike in the Blue Hills. We will be hiking on the Skyline Trail, known to be rugged, strenuous and great training/conditioning for some of the bigger mountains up north. This hike will begin and end by climbing up and down the killer steep 624 foot hill adjacent to Route 138. We plan to climb Buck Hill, and all the other hills along the way. If we're lucky, we may hit a vantage point to catch a glimpse of our very own Boston skyline. We will be hiking at an average pace of 1.5-2 mph on rocky terrain, up and down the hills, with an elevation gain of 1,000+ feet. Plan to hike 7+ miles and enjoy a breath of fresh air.
Please be prepared for a full day of hiking with layers appropriate for the weather, plenty of water, lunch, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellant Hiking poles are a big plus on this type of trail.
We will meet at the Park and Ride at 2990 Washington Street (Route 138) in Canton MA. Please arrive at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 AM start.
Registration is required.
I began leading bike trips for the AMC in 1990 and led for ten years before taking a break. When I became active with the Forty Plus Committee I decided to start leading again. I took a refresher leadership course and Wilderness First Aid and now I am certified as a cross-country ski and bike leader. I have met many wonderful leaders and trip participants and Forty Plus has become one of my most enjoyable retirement activities.
