Join us for a moderately -paced conditioning hike in the Blue Hills. We will be hiking on the Skyline Trail, known to be rugged, strenuous and great training/conditioning for some of the bigger mountains up north. The plan is to attempt to "summit" Buck Hill. If we're lucky, we may hit a vantage point to catch a glimpse of our very own Boston skyline. We will be hiking at an average pace of 1.5-2 mph on rocky terrain, up and down the hills, with an elevation gain up to 1,000 feet. Plan to hike 8 miles. Come and enjoy a breath or two of midweek fresh air with us.
We will meet at Shea Memorial Rink at 651 Willard Street, Quincy. We will meet at 8:45 AM with boots on and be ready to hit the trail at 9:00 AM. Please be prepared for a full day out on the trail with at least 1.5 liters of water, lunch, snacks and layers appropriate for the weather as well as sunscreen. Hiking poles are a big help.
Registration is required.
I began leading bike trips for the AMC in 1990 and led for ten years before taking a break. When I became active with the Forty Plus Committee I decided to start leading again. I took a refresher leadership course and Wilderness First Aid and now I am certified as a cross-country ski and bike leader. I have met many wonderful leaders and trip participants and Forty Plus has become one of my most enjoyable retirement activities.
