Hike The Trust of Reservation's Ward Reservation in Andover/North Andover MA. Meet at 12:00 pm at Prospect Rd parking area in Andover MA. There's a $5 parking fee for non-TTOR members. We'll hike along a section of the BCT and other reservation trails, enjoying marshland, woodland and grassland habitats, and resting at the Solstice Stones to enjoy the scenic views from Holt Hill, Essex County's highest point. The fields in Ward are great locations for observing bluebirds even during the winter as a result of the many nest boxes scattered throughout the reservation. We'll also visit Rubbish Meadow (swamp) and view the nest site of Great Blue Herons and Great-horned owls. Owl nesting can begin in January, followed by heron nesting in March. Winter conditions may necessitate micro-spikes for icy conditions or snowshoes in case of deep snow. Gaiters are helpful to keep snow from falling into your footwear. From I-93, take MA 125 north for 5 miles and right onto Prospect Road. Follow Prospect Road 0.3 miles to the parking area at about 57 Prospect Rd Andover MA.Directions:
