*** 2/8/2019 - CHANGED TO WAUMBEK DUE TO CONDITIONS ***
Join us for a winter hike up Mt. Madison (5,367'). From the Appalachia trailhead, we'll hike up Valley Way, then take the Osgood Trail to the summit, for an 8.6 mile out-and-back with 4,100 feet of elevation gain. Weather permitting, we will enjoy fantastic views from the summit. This trail is steep and goes above treeline, and we can anticipate full winter conditions, so previous winter mountaineering experience is required in order to participate. Expect an early start and steady pace with brief breaks. If the weather is not suitable for this hike, the leaders will select an alternative hike in the area.
Alex enjoys hiking in all seasons. While best known for fast-paced single day, multi-peak mega-hikes and gnarly back country bushwhacks, he will enjoy sharing his love for the mountains just about anywhere, with hikers at all ability levels.
Eliot Levine leads trips for the Berkshire and Boston chapters. He has climbed the NH 4000-footers and most of them a second time in winter, as well as almost 100 peaks in the Northeast 111.
