Rock climbing provides the exhilaration of conquering a crag, but also the puzzle of figuring out a sequence of moves to climb a difficult section. You can experience the rewards and challenges of rock climbing by taking the Boston Mountaineering Committee's Rock Climbing Program! This program covers the basic skills for outdoor rock climbing. The emphasis of the course is learning to safely follow a leader on multipitch trad climbs. We cover: toprope anchor building, belaying, ascending, rappelling, and more. No prior experience is necessary. You will learn from our experienced volunteer instructors and meet other aspiring and enthusiastic rock climbers! The program will have two indoor sessions: an optional information session on March 12 (tentative) from 7-8pm, and a required Knots night on March 26 (tentative) from 7-9pm. The program weekends are held in the Blue Hills reservation. The first program weekend is April 6 and 7 (both days required); you may attend either day of the remaining program weekends: April 13/14, April 27/28, and May 4/5. If you do not have a climbing harness or helmet (required), they may be borrowed at no cost (with a deposit). Registration is by application, due by the Sunday after the optional information session. For more information, see http://amcbostonclimbers.com/rock-program. The application will be available on the web site starting on March 12.
