Visit the THREE Hancock peaks over 4000' high!

Trip dates: Saturday, July 7, 2018 12:00 AM

Join us for a challenging hike over the three Hancock peaks over 4000' tall - South Hancock (4,319'), Hancock (aka North Hancock 4,420') and Northwest Hancock (4,020'). While the first two summits are on the New Hampshire 48 Four Thousand Footer list and are readily accessible by well-travelled trails, Northwest Hancock (on the Trailwrights 72 list) is rarely hiked and is accessible only via a challenging bushwhack from North Hancock. Starting from the Hancock Notch Trailhead at the hairpin turn on the Kancamagus Highway, we will take the Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook and Hancock Loop trails to the summits of South Hancock and (North) Hancock before tackling the approximate 1 mile bushwhack over to Northwest Hancock. We will then continue our bushwhack to a slide on the western side of the mountain which we will then follow down to the Cedar Brook Trail for our hike back to the Hancock Notch Trailhead. Expect a long 12-14 hour day, a distance of around 13 miles hiked at a moderate pace and an elevation gain of 3,500'. Please Note! - bushwhacking (off-trail travel) is inherently unpredictable such that if you have never bushwhacked before please discuss this with the leaders to get an idea of what to expect.
