Family Bay Circuit Trail (BCT) Hike: Bedford Town Common to Great Meadows NWR, Bedford, MA (BHP Level 2)

AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the AMC liability waiver, online registration is required for all in person AMC events.

Trip dates: Sunday, May 20, 2018 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

We meet at 12 pm for a slow/moderate paced family walk along the Bay Circuit Trail (BCT). The BCT is one of the state's longest hiking trails. This walk is an introduction to the BCT and AMC's Beginner Hiking Program (BHP).

We hike the section of the BCT extending from Bedford Town Common to Great Meadows NWR, with optional exploration at the wildlife refuge trails and observation platforms. We will meet at noon and walk approximately 5 miles on flat land returning to our staring point around 4 pm.

"The Bay Circuit trail - sometimes named "Bay Secret" trail - is a brilliant idea conceived in 1929 as an 'outer emerald necklace' connecting green gems surrounding Boston. Today it is a 230 mile thru-hike!"

Waterproof printed BCT map and guide will be available on the hike for $15 (bring cash or check) OR for $19.95 + postage at amcstore.outdoors.org/booksmaps/maps/massachusetts/bay-circuit-trail-map-and-guide. Online maps and trail descriptions can be found at: www.baycircuit.org/maps-guides/

This hike is part of Hidden Treasures, a program in partnership with Freedom's Way National Heritage Area.
