Come join us on a 2 day family hike with a stay at Greenleaf Hut (4,220) in Franconia Notch, NH. Saturday we hike Old Bridle Path to Hut 2.9 mi 2,500 ft elevation gain. Sunday multiple options: Easier Option: Straight back on Old Bridle Path 2.9 mi More Difficult Option: Summit Mt. Lafayette and Cross Franconia Ridge, Down Falling Waters Trail (6.0 mi 1,500 ft elevation gain, 3100 elevation loss). This more difficult option is one of the most popular hikes in New England with amazing 360 degree views from the ridge, but the difficulty should not be underestimated. This hike is above treeline and fully exposed to bad weather and wind. If the weather forecast looks bad, we will not ascend or cross the ridge.
We will stay at Greenleaf Hut. It is self-service season, so we will carry and make our own food, as well as bring our own sleeping bags. Dinner and breakfasts are provided, but participants will need to bring 2 lunches and other trail snacks. We will all make and cleanup dinner and breakfast as a group. There is a full kitchen with plates, cups and silverware at the hut. We will pack out our own trash including unfinished food and all plastic bags/wrappers.
The hut is family-friendly, with co-ed bunkrooms so families can stay together. Cost: $70 for AMC members ($80 non-members) includes lodging, dinner, and breakfast.
