Join us for a Martin Luther King Day hike to Mount Greylock in Adams, MA, the highest point in Massachusetts with the possibility of views of 5 states! It's the location of many interesting early to mid-20th century constructions such as the Massachusetts Veterans War Memorial Tower at the peak, part of the Appalachian Trail, and the Thunderbolt Ski Trail (still in use). We will be traveling at a moderate pace to the peak on some of the local trails, a 6.6 mile loop with a 2100' elevation change. Winter conditions in Western Mass in January are variable so conditions could be bare ground to deep snow so having microspikes and snowshoes are a must.
We highly suggest carpooling, not only because of limited parking at the trailhead, but it's a great way to meet your fellow hikers!
Casey leads trips year around for the hiking/backpacking committee of the AMC Boston Chapter. He is heavily engaged in the H/B leadership and training programs such as Spring/Fall Leadership Training as well as our educational programs in the Spring and Winter Hiking Programs. Like other hikers that hike before sun up and after sun down and do 20+ miles, Casey likes to do the same only keep it under 10 miles :) He's experienced but not a speed daemon
