Celebrate the bicentennial year of Henry David Thoreau's birth with naturalist Boot Boutwell and a walk on the trails of Gowing's Swamp, Concord, MA. Gowing's Swamp, named by Thoreau for its landowner in the mid-1850s, is an 8.9-area acidic wetland complex located in a protected, glaciated hollow on the eastern side of a glacial kame known as Revolutionary Ridge. The walk will focus on plant ID and fun and interesting natural history. Free parking is available at the Ripley School on Meriam Rd, which is off of Old Bedford Rd. Slow pace.
