FREE program for families & kids on avoiding being lost & what to do if lost. Best for kids 4-12. See search and rescue dogs in action! The workshop starts at 2 pm and runs 1.5 - 2 hours. AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the AMC liability waiver, online registration is required for all in person AMC events.
Snow has arrived! Hike/snowshoe Mt. Watatic in Ashburnham, MA with other like-minded families. We will take the Wapack Trail (2.2 mi round trip, 1000' elevation gain) to the summit at a moderate and comfortable pace, enjoying the views. Hiking or snow boots are required, along with appropriate winter gear. Snow shoes are recommended. We have Xtra to lend if needed. Kids of all ages welcome. Easy/moderate day hike up Mounts Morgan and Percival in the NH Lakes Region (B3C)
Join us for a late fall hike up these two small peaks (2220' and 2212') in Holderness, NH, with great views of the lakes from the summits of each. Beginning at the Mount Percival trailhead, we'll hike the 5.5 miles over both summits, with 1575' cumulative elevation gain. The terrain is mostly gradual, with occasional steep, rocky sections that can require some scrambling. One section of the trail has some ledges with ladders and a cave that we'll pass through on the way to the summit, with a nearby detour for those who prefer it.
That chill in the air means Winter is Coming! We are Boston and New Hampshire Chapters planning to work on backcountry ski trails on Mt Cardigan. We work in groups of 5-7 to clear blowdowns and cut new growth for smooth skiing next season. If you have tools (loppers and/or hand saw), bring it or we have tools to lend. You will need work gloves, boots, pack with water & lunch, and clothing for being outside all day. Its a great workout and a great cause. Cardigan has some of the best backcountry ski trails close to Boston for all abilities.
Join Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Family Outings for a fun relaxed Winter Weekend roughly 2 ½ hours north of Boston at Calumet lodge & cabins. On the edge of Lake Ossipee, Calumet offers hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, x-c skiing at our doorstep, and optional DH skiing nearby. Adults relax while kids build snowmen and snow angels and play outdoor basketball and broom ball at the covered pavillion. This weekend includes accommodations, all meals, activities, & down time for kids & adults.
Join other full time college students for a fun action packed weekend of whitewater instruction! Instruction follows ACA standards and progresses from flatwater to class 2 whitewater. Camp overnight at a farm in Northfield NH. Rental gear is available. You must be able to transport boat & gear from boathouse in Lincoln, ma to Northfield, NH. Please contact leader if you plan to use your own gear.

I-95/Rte.128 Exit 35 (Woburn) to Rte. 38S for 0.1mi., then R (Middlesex Canal Drive) past Holiday Inn to SW corner of pkg. lot behind Woburn Cinemas.
Join us on this 7 mile hike starting at the AMC Cardigan Lodge (Alexandria NH) up to Firescrew, and across a ridge to Mt. Cardigan, then down to the lodge via West Ridge Trail. The top of Cardigan is particularly rewarding with 360 degree panoramic views of the area. New members with some hiking experience are welcome.
