Pond Social for Paddlers

Come to our Wednesday evening (5:30 pm - dark, June 8 - Aug 31) pond socials! These are informal get-togethers at a pond in Concord (near Walden Pond) to practice paddling skills, roll whitewater kayaks and play around.
Everyone is welcome to join us with their own boat! We have WW kayak rentals for $10. You must be able to transport the kayak from the boathouse to the pond and back (approx. 5 miles).

This program is for AMC members who are interested in organizing and leading Boston Chapter trips and activities. Participation in the program qualifies you to co-lead trips and activities for Hiking/Backpacking, Bike, Ski, Young Members, Forty Plus, Family Outings, Paddling and other Boston committees. The program consists of lectures, small group exercises and role-play scenarios spread over two evening sessions and one weekend session, with a follow-on session to organize actual trips. Topics include trip planning and trip organization, safety, leadership styles, and group dynamics.

Just a Bit Farther: Biking Across the USA - Potluck & Slideshow

Jodee Varney set off with her sister, Heather, on June 15, 2015 to cross North America by bicycle. Prior to starting the trip, neither had ever been on a single overnight bike trip, and Heather's longest bike ride was less than 20 miles. They biked westbound from Boston to Seaside Oregon via many backroads and a few Interstate freeways, camping almost every night, while carrying 20-23 pounds of gear each. They met lots of real people, and visited some places that many of us have never heard of.
