The Mountains and Music committee of AMC's Boston Chapter sponsors two weekends each year that combine music-making and outdoor activities. Instrumentalists join together to play chamber music, then accompany the chorus in a large choral and orchestra piece.
Singers form informal groups to sing madrigals, rounds, and other small ensemble pieces. Instrumentalists choose music from the extensive AMC music library and may play Brandenburg Concertos, wind octets, string ensembles or chamber works with unusual instrumentation. Listeners are always welcome too!
The fall weekend is held at Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch, where participants can enjoy hiking in the beautiful fall foliage in the White Mountains. The winter weekend is held either at Nature's Classroom at the Sargent Center near Peterborough or in the White Mountains, alternating years, and taking advantage of seasonal outdoor activities, including skiing and snowshoeing.
We hope you will join us for a weekend and tell your musical friends as well! The only pre-requisite is sight-reading ability on your instrument or voice part.
February 16-19, 2018 - Mountains & Music weekend at Pinkham Notch
For over 40 years, AMC Mountains & Music has brought together participants of all ages who share a love of classical music and the outdoors for a weekend of music in the beautiful White Mountains. Our February weekend will feature an informal performance of Haydn's The Creation - a collaboration of orchestra and chorus, conducted by Beth Norton from the First Parish Church in Concord. Additional activities are planned to take advantage of the optional third day on this long weekend!
