Great opportunity to get to know the group. 6:30 - 7 pm or 7:30 pm we discuss committee business and big events coming up 2020 (New Year Celebration and Equipment Sale, Beginner Hiking Program BHP, and Leader Appreciation Dinner/Awards Ceremony). FAMILY FALL WEEKEND AT SUB SIG CABIN, CRAWFORD NOTCH

Join us for a weekend at Sub Sig Cabin in Hart's location in Crawford Notch, NH down the road from AMC Highland Center. This is a half century old hidden jewel …in fact it is called Hart's location and the cabin ( Sub Sig) is rustic, but comfy with an outhouse ( yeah) and hauled in water. We will plan a hike choice both Saturday and Sunday as well as group breakfasts and a supper prepared by us all on Saturday evening. Trip is recommended for families with kids ages 7 and up. Group size limited to 16 lucky souls.

Introduction to Birding Family Walk at Cook Conservation Area, Lancaster MA

Join Lancaster Recreation in partnership with the AMC for a wonderful walk at Cook Conservation Area as we look for our feathered friends. The walk starts at 9 am and ends at 11 am at the trailhead off Route 70 in Lancaster, just south of Kimballs. There is a sign for the Cook Conservation Area on the road. This walk is open to anyone interested in enjoying a short walk through this beautiful natural area but is geared toward individuals interested in learning how to identify bird species. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars but some pairs will be available to borrow.

Deer Island Morning Stroll with the Family

Join Boston Family Outings for a walk around Deer Island in Winthrop (approx. distance 2 miles). The walk is mostly flat. Stroller accessible. Experience the spectacular views of Boston, the airport, and the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) wastewater treatment plant. This facility, the second largest in the United States, uses the same amount of electricity as more than 2,000 homes each year. Be fascinated with the rich history of the island: internment camp, prison, hospital.

Family Camping at Pawtuckaway State Park, Nottingham, NH

Join us for a weekend of tent camping and exploring a lake, hiking trails, a fire tower, biking trails, marshes, wildlife, and a boulder field of glacial erratics, all within Pawtuckaway State Park! There are options to rent kayaks/canoes/paddleboards for a fee from the Park. Bring your tent and sleeping gear and the leaders will plan and bring food and cooking equipment for meals. Days are open for you to do your own activities or join with others for a hike or a bike ride. Participants will all pitch in to help prepare the family-style meals and clean up.

Family AMC Carter Notch Hut Fall Folliage Overnight, White Mountains, NH

Join us for Fall Folliage galore at AMC Carter Notch Hut, our eastern most hut and best kept secret, with its intimate and unimaginably beautiful setting in a notch with some of the finest scenery in the region; a world of towering cliffs and tranquil mountain lakes; the steep faces of Wildcat to the west and Carter Dome to the east; and two glacial tarns. We will hike in via 19 mile brook trail (3.8 miles, 2,050 ft.) carrying our sleeping bags, lunch and snacks, and water. This is a great way to introduce your kids to backpacking without needing to bring along a tent.

Columbus Day Weekend Zealand Hut Trip for Families with Teen (10+) Children

An easy east 2.8 mile hike with packs brings us to beautiful Zealand Falls Hut with Fall Foliage galore! Drop off overnight gear and head to Zeacliff for beautiful views across Zealand Notch, to and over Whitewall Mountain to the Willey Range and the Presidentials, and south across Pemigewasset Wilderness OR just hang out by the Falls. On day two, we will hike to Mount Hale (4,055 feet) and/or conditions permitting a group will hike to the Bonds. On day three, we'll hike out in the late morning. Recommended for families with children over 10.

Columbus Day Weekend- Cardigan High Cabin

Join a small group of AMC Families at Cardigan High Cabin for the night. Hike in two miles with 1450' elevation gain. The cabin is just under half a mile from the summit of Mt. Cardigan (3,155') w/great views. Fall hiking is awesome with cool temperatures, no bugs and beautiful colors.
Begin at Cardigan Lodge and hike 2 miles (1,450 elevation gain) to Cardigan High Cabin. Drop overnight gear and continue to the summit. Return to cabin for games/activities and meal prep. The cabin has a composting toilet and wood stove for heat. Sunday hike back to Cardigan Lodge.

Family Halloween AMC Carter Notch Hut Overnight, White Mountains, NH

The AMC's Carter Notch Hut, known to be haunted, is the perfect destination for this family Halloween Saturday night overnight (more on that later). We backpack in 3.8 miles with 2,050' elevation gain along the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail arriving at the hut with a small lake and surrounded by the towering cliffs of Wildcat and Carter Dome on either side.

Mount Morgan and Mount Percival Loop Family Hike, Holderness, NH

Family West Rattlesnake Mountain Hike, Holderness, NH

This hike offers the "Best hike/views for least effort", dare we say anywhere? Lots of "bang for your buck" so to speak. We meet at noon. We will hike approximately 2 miles with 450' elevation gain round trip to the summit of West Rattlesnake Mountain (1260') and back. We expect the hike will take 2 hours including time to enjoy the summit with its rocky outcrops and expansive views of Squam Lake with its many islands as well as the Belknap Range in the distance.

Family Thanksgiving Weekend AMC Shapleigh Bunkhouse, Crawford Notch, NH

Join other families for a weekend in beautiful Crawford Notch, NH! AMC Boston Family Outings has reserved the Shapleigh Bunkhouse (next to the Highland Center) for Friday and Saturday nights after Thanksgiving. Great hiking, socializing, and fun with the family. Late fall hiking is awesome with views unobstructed by leaves, cool temperatures, and no bugs! Hikes will be designed to fit the ages and interests of the kids including a hike up Mt. Willard (3.2 miles RT) with gorgeous views down into Crawford Notch ….a classic "big bang for your buck" hike.

Family Thanksgiving AMC Lonesome Lake Hut Overnight, Franconia Notch, NH

Enjoy turkey w/cranberry sauce and pecan pie with a small group of families at AMC Lonesome Lake Hut the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This is a great trip for families with some experience hiking! We hike 1.6 miles, (950 ' elevation gain) to the hut at a kid-friendly pace. Late fall hiking is awesome with views unobstructed by leaves, cool temperatures, and no bugs. We carry our sleeping bags, lunches and snacks, water and mountain gear. The group carries in supplies for dinner and breakfast and prepares it together in the hut kitchen.

Enjoy turkey w/cranberry sauce and pecan pie with a small group of AMC Boston Families for this Thanksgiving Weekend overnight at Cardigan High Cabin, a two mile hike (1450' elevation gain) from Cardigan Lodge and under half mile from the summit of Mt. Cardigan (3155'). High Cabin was built in 1931 and renovated in 2004 with new bunk beds, roof, woodstove and Clivus composting toilet. Trip best for kids 6 years and older. Cost of $50 for adults and $40 for kids includes dinner and breakfast.

Family New Years at Pinestead Farm Lodge in Franconia

Ring in the New Year with Family Outings at Pinestead Farm Lodge, a Family Outings longtime Favorite in Franconia, NH! Pinestead is a comfortable rustic lodge on a farm with direct access to XC ski and snowshoe trails. Great sledding hills on property and nearby as well. 15 min from Cannon or 45 min from Bretton Woods for DH skiing. Ice skating and tubing available at the nearby Franconia Inn (both for a fee) Group hikes to Bridal Veil Falls sometimes happen as well. Great for families with kids of all ages and skill levels.

Eddy originated the Pinestead trip and many other Family Outings favorites over the years. His kids are also long grown and gone but he thrives on making complicated meals, outfitting people with used gear and teaching young and old how to cross country ski.
