Family-Friendly Bicycle Tour of Cape Cod National Seashore

Family-friendly bicycle tour of Cape Cod: bicycle path, farmers' market, salt water taffy, ice cream, bakeries, lighthouses, & many beaches to play at.

We meet on Friday evening in Eastham hostel, set in a wooded area with common space, eating area, open play space, & small cabins. We spend the weekend visiting many attractions along the Cape Cod Bicycle Trail going out to Orleans farmers' market, Nickerson State Park, Coast Guard beach, Nauset lighthouse, PB Boulangerie bakery, Flax pond, & much more.

Franconia Ridge Family Hike, White Mountains, New Hampshire

Enjoy this classic hike across one of the most beautiful ridges in the White Mountains. Ascend the Falling Waters trail to Little Haystack, traverse the Franconia Ridge going over Mt.Lincoln to Mt.Lafayette, then down via The Old Bridle Path. 8.9 miles, and over 4,000 feet of total elevation gain. This is a strenuous hike, best for kids age 9 and up, but a classic and beautiful and we know some of you and your kids can do it. Registration required. We will help you assess if you and your kids are ready for this spectacular adventure. This will be a long, but very beautiful special day.

Family/HB Mount Morgan & Mount Percival Loop Hike, Holderness, NH

Join Family Outings and H/B to hike the Mount Morgan (2220')/Mount Percival (2212') loop (~ 5.3 miles; 1575 feet of elevation gain). This hike is appropriate for kids and adults ages 8+ with some hiking experience on open rocky ledges. We will hike moderate to steep trails with open ledges, cliff tops, rock scrambles and possibly some small caves. We will not climb the ladders section of the trail due to its difficulty. and exposure. Possible swim and ice cream after.

Family Outings Patriotic Bike Ride, Lexington and Concord, MA

Join Family Outings for a Leisurely 20 mile bike ride in Lexington and Concord including the best Ice Cream in the area. A fabulous way to celebrate our nation's independence in the place where the Revolutionary War began. Meet at the Lexington Town Center parking lot by the old train depot. Ride is Show and Go. Family Lonesome Lake Hut Overnight, Franconia, NH

Join us for a fun overnight at family-friendly Lonesome Lake hut. We will hike 1.6 miles to the hut (and gain 1000' vertical feet) at a kid friendly pace (~1-1.5 miles/hr); the route crosses 2 bridges and features a few mild rock scrambles, and the moderate incline is moderated by switchbacks. We will stop along the way for snacks, a look at nature and possibly for lunch by the lake. Once at the hut, you will have free time to enjoy a swim or continue on to the summit of N.Kinsman (4293"). Monday, we will hike around the lake and back to our cars. Best for ages 5-12.

Family Walk: Why Ever Be Bored in Boston?

From the Chinatown Gate to under the Zakim Bridge, we will survey the wonderful Rose Kennedy Greenway and Freedom Trail this July 4th Weekend.. We walk a total of around 2 - 3 miles with slight side deviations to enjoy the sights and sounds. We start at the Beach Street gate and end near the skate park at foot of the pedestrian bridge in Cambridge, adjacent to the new park opposite the Boston Science Museum. Bring snacks/sandwich, water, and rain cover as well as strollers for the youngest kids. Trip starts near the Orange Line Chinatown Stop.

Family Friendly July 4th Pitcher Mtn Hike, Swim & Ice Cream, Stoddard, NH

Join us for this incredible big-bang-for-your-buck July 4th family friendly hike to Pitcher Mountain with a fire tower and 360 degree vistas followed by a swim and ice cream. Vistas include the surrounding hillsides and pastures, the Green Mountains, Mt. Monadnock, and on rare occasions, a glimpse of the White Mountains, well worth the not quite 2 hour drive from the Boston area. This is a joint Family Outings and Spring Hiking Program Hike. We will hike an easy 1 mile loop trail suitable for beginners and all to enjoy.

Family/HB Overnight Beginner Backpack To Liberty Springs

This is a joint Family and Hiking/Backpacking trip. We will get an early start Saturday morning and hike 3.4 miles with 2450', 2" elevation gain to Liberty Spring tentsite. This is a modification from our earlier plans to go to Ethan Pond which is booked solid. We will hike a moderate incline at first. As we approach the campsite, the trail becomes steeper and more rocky, basically more difficult. After making camp, ambitious hikers are welcome to attempt to summit the nearby Mt. Liberty (4459', 0.6 miles round trip) and Flume (4328', 2.8 miles roundtrip).

Join us for a weekend at Sub Sig Cabin in Hart's location in Crawford Notch down the road from AMC Highland Center. This is a half century old hidden jewel …in fact it is called Hart's location and the cabin ( Sub Sig) is rustic yet clean and functional with an outhouse ( yeah) and hauled in water. We will plan a hike choice both Saturday and Sunday as well as group breakfasts and a supper prepared by us all on Saturday evening. Trip is recommended for families with kids ages 7 - 12. Group size will be limited to 15 lucky souls.

Family Harold Parker State Forest Hike, Ice Cream, and Trip Planning Meeting, Andover, MA

A fun afternoon hike at Harold Parker State Forest in Andover, MA half hour north of Boston followed by ice cream and our trip planning meeting at a nearby leader home. We'll meet at 12:45 pm at Harold Parker State Forest Headquarters and hike 1 ½ - 2 hours around Salem Pond (~ 2 miles) on varied terrain, mostly flat, but with some ups and downs. At 3 pm we'll have ice cream (compliments of Family Outings) and our trip planning meeting from 3:30 - 4:30 pm at a nearby leader home. Join us for one or all of the activities. Everyone welcome. We will be camping at Nickerson State Park, a short walk from the beach at Flax Pond, where there is swimming, non-motorized boating, frog catching, biking and general fun. CHOOSE THE DAYS YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME! Great for kids/teens of all ages. Convenient to the Outer Cape and local attractions, bike trails, and bayside beaches. Informal group activities may include group biking trips, swimming and excursions. Group size is 25-30, and we dine together and share chores on a communal kitchen site known as the "blue tarp diner". Group site for tenting.

AMC Boston Family Outings has reserved the Shapleigh Bunkhouse (next to the Highland Center) for Friday and Saturday nights after Thanksgiving. Great hiking, socializing, and fun with the family. Late fall hiking is awesome with views unobstructed by leaves, cool temperatures, and no bugs! Hikes will be designed to fit the ages and interests of the kids including a hike up Mt. Willard (3.2 miles RT) with gorgeous views down into Crawford Notch ….a classic "big bang for your buck" hike.
