Slow nature walk through woods, fields, and bog boardwalk, focusing on plant ID and fun natural history. From 1:00pm-4:00pm. Route 2 Exit 42 (Route 27/Main Street, Acton). Follow Route 27N for about 1 mile through Acton Center, turn left on Nagog Hill Road and follow for about 1.1 miles. Parking on the left just past the small meadow. Parking space is limited, so arrive early. Steady rain or heavy snow cancels. No dogs. Non-AMC members, $1.
Steady paced walk, from 10:00am-2:00pm. Sightseeing after lunch. Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. In the event of snow, bring snowshoes. I-95 Exit 57 to Route 113W for 0.7 miles. Turn right on Hoyt's (Gypsy Lane) to lot at the end on the right. Parking fee. Storm cancels. No dogs. Non AMC members, $1.
Hike or snowshoe on easy terrain in scenic woodland for about 2 hours. Meet at 1:30pm. I-93 Exit 41, east on Route 125 toward Andover, then exit at Route 28N. North on Route 28 (South Main Street) about 0.4 miles. Park in front of 491 South Main Street at the Reservation entrance, just before Gould Road intersection. Heavy rain cancels.
Easy walking through meadows and crop lands on this 100+ acre Trustees of Reservations historic farm and parts of Hale and Noanet Woodlands, from 1:00-3:00pm. I-95/Route 128 Exit 16B (Route 109W). Follow for less than 1 mile and turn right on Dover Road. Follow for 2.5 miles. Turn left into farm immediately after the big gray barn. Meet at the parking lot near the main barn, close to the street. No dogs. Non-AMC members, $1.
Christmas event from 1:30-4:30pm. 6 miles of back roads and trails ending at the Wayside Inn pub for hot chocolate. Car caravan to a nearby display of Christmas lights. I-95 Exit 26 to Route 20W for 11 miles. Turn right at the large green sign saying "Wayside Inn Road." Go 0.25 miles and turn left into 72 Wayside Inn Road parking lot. Storm cancels. Short hike to summit of Weir Hill, Trustees of Reservations double drumlin with beautiful view of Merrimack Valley. 9:00-11:00am. Bring water, snacks, and hiking boots. I-93 to Route 125N for 7.3 miles, then left on Route 114W. Right on Route 125 for 0.2 miles, then turn right at the lights and go 0.6 miles (past Stevens-Coolidge Place). Turn right at the fork and go 0.2 miles. At Old North Andover Center, stay straight and go 0.1 miles. Turn left on Stevens Street and go 0.8 miles to the entrance on the right. Storm cancels. Hike 5 miles on a variety of trails. Meet at 11:00am, Visitors Center, with appropriate footwear for conditions. Bring water and snack. I-95S (toward Providence) Exit 10 (Sharon, Walpole and Coney Street). Turn left at the end of the ramp and follow road 2-3 miles to the lights in Sharon Center. Stay straight through intersection and immediately bear right onto Pond Street. Follow for 1-1.5 miles until the traffic rotary. Then, go halfway around rotary and continue onto Massapoag Avenue. Travel 3 miles to the park entrance on the left. For directions, see link below. No dogs.
3-mile nature walk in this little-known section of the Blue Hills Reservation. Look for signs of birds and animals in winter, from 10:00am-noon. From I-93/Route 128 Exit 2B, take Route 138N to the rear of the Park & Ride lot on the left, just after Dunkin Donuts. Joint with Friends of the Blue Hills. No dogs. Non-AMC members, $1.
Hike in the wildest and most remote section of Blue Hills Reservation, the Chickatawbut section, from 10:00am-3:30pm. 7 miles. Meet at Shea Ice Rink on Willard Street in Quincy. From I-93 Exit 8 in Quincy, go south for 0.6 miles on Willard Street. Or, from I-93/Route 128 Exit 6 in Braintree, go north for 0.7 miles. Public transit, take the 238 bus from Quincy Center T station. Joint with Friends of the Blue Hills. No dogs. Non-AMC members, $1.
