Middlesex Fells, Winchester

Fast-paced scenic 6-mile hike/snowshoe to obscure parts of western Fells, including Squaw Sachem Rock and Ramshead Hill. 9:45am-1:30pm. Bring lunch and sturdy footwear. I-93 Exit 33 (Medford) and head west on South Border Road toward Winchester. Continue 2 miles to the paved Long Pond parking lot on the right. Rain cancels. No dogs. Non-AMC members, $1.

Weir Hill, North Andover

5-mile interpretive hike and talk at site of 1840s Hawthorne and transcendentalists utopian community. Also, visit Camp Andrew. Short hike to summit of Weir Hill, Trustees of Reservations double drumlin with beautiful views of Merrimack Valley. 9-11am. Bring water, snacks, and hiking boots. I-93 to Route 125N, and continue 7.3 miles. Turn left on Route 114W, then right on Route 125, and go 0.2 miles. Turn right at the lights and continue 0.6 miles (past Stevens-Coolidge Place). Turn right at the fork and continue 0.2 miles.

Blue Hills Bird Walk

Beginner's bird walk 3 miles through Fowl Meadow, 7-10:30 am. Learn to bird. See both common and rare bird species at the height of spring migration in the best birding area in the Blue Hills Reservation. Bring your binoculars and a bird book if you have one. From Route 93/128 Exit 2B, take Route 138 north 1.7 miles, turn left on Neponset Valley Parkway and go 0.5 miles to the small lot at Brush Hill Road. Joint with Friends of the Blue Hills. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
