Do What? Where? Klettersteig in the Dolomites - Potluck & Slideshow

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 12:00 AM

The Dolomites are in the northeastern Italian alpine region that borders on Austria. This region, chosen as a UNESCO Heritage site, is in the words of John Murray (1840) "unlike any other mountains and are to be seen nowhere else among the Alps. They arrest the attention by the singularity and picturesqueness of their forms… sometimes rising in pinnacles and obelisks, at others extending in serrated ridges teethed like the jaw of an alligator." These mountains are surrounded sometimes by stark moonscapes and at other times by vast expanses of alpine meadows and forests.

Dehydration 101: Making Your Own Backcountry Meals and Snacks - Potluck & Slideshow

Thursday, January 26, 2012 12:00 AM

Have you ever thought, "Gosh, should I really be eating this much salt? And should a camp meal cost THAT much?"…if so, you are a perfect candidate to join us for the Dehydration 101 presentation by Kellie Anne Connelly. Preserving food and getting it to a lighter pack weight is not a new idea, but we have become more and more reliant on prepackaged commercial goods that have high sodium content, added preservatives, lost nutritional value, and a high price tag to meet our backcountry needs.
