One or two day paddling skills clinic taught at Woods Hole by a professional instructor. First day will cover paddling skills: bracing, edging, maneuvering, and rescues in Level 3 current and waves (helmets and wet/dry suits required). Learn how to cross an eddy line, ferry across a channel, and turn in waves. Expect numerous rescues throughout the day. The second day (optional) will touch on leadership aspects, such as trip planning, contingencies, and group management. We will then apply skills from both days in a Level 4 tour from Woods Hole across Vineyard Sound to West Chop.

Scenic tidal basin off the Piscataqua river near Portsmouth. We'll launch at the mouth of the basin and paddle with the incoming tide. After lunch and some exploring we'll return the same way. Expect about 15 miles RT. This is protected water, so no swells and limited boat traffic. There may be strong tidal currents near the mouth.
Paddle this beautiful, under-developed tidal river on the South Shore. We launch at Head of Westport (rentals available @ launch) and paddle 12 miles down to Horseneck beach. This tidal river is fairly shallow, so not a lot of motor boats, but will see lots of ospreys. We take-out at town and shuttle cars to avoid the slog back, then regroup at restaurant next to take-out for drinks outside overlooking the river. You must be able to paddle 12 miles in 4-5 hours, with breaks of course. The water is protected from seas, but we might encounter winds.
Kayak Strokes Clinic after work. For those learning to Kayak and those who want to improve their strokes for longer trips.Bring your kayak: rentals available through Charles River Canoe and Kayak.
Visit scenic Lackey's Bay and Hadley's Harbor on Naushon Island from Woods Hole, MA. This 10-12 mile trip will take us past Nobska Lighthouse to Nonamesset Island then to lunch on Bull Island. Mostly protected waters, but we will cross Woods Hole passage in a low current area with likely boat traffic. Possible 15-20 KT tailwind and some chop in the afternoon.
The clinic will cover wet exits and assisted rescues that you need for advanced trips. Bring your kayak and swimsuit and prepare to get wet. Rentals available through Charles River Canoe and Kayak.
