Sea Kayak down Westport River

Saturday, June 8, 2013 12:00 AM

Paddle this beautiful, under-developed tidal river on the South Shore. We launch at Head of Westport (rentals available @ launch) and paddle 12 miles down to Horseneck beach. This tidal river is fairly shallow, so not a lot of motor boats, but will see lots of ospreys, ducks, and other birds. We paddle to mouth and take a break on Horseneck beach, then back to town for take out, then regroup for drinks at nearby restaurant on deck overlooking the river. This is a level 1.5 trip. You must be able to paddle 12 miles (tide assisted) in 4-5 hours, with breaks of course.
