Sea Kayak Camping Adventures along the MITA trail (Casco Bay)

Saturday, August 31, 2013 12:00 AM to Monday, September 2, 2013 12:00 AM

Paddle the MITA trail across Casco bay over Labor Day weekend. Starting from Portland, we will paddle, hike, and camp amongst the islands, working our way eastward into the quiet waters of eastern Casco. The plan is to cover 37 miles over 3 days and shuttle vehicles to skip the slog back. This is a level 3 trip, covering 12-16 miles per day with long (4-5miles) stretches of exposed water. We will modify itinerary/objectives based on weather, winds, and seas. Participants need to be familiar with camping and packing their boats as we will move camp each day.

Sea Kayak Boston Harbor (L2)

Sunday, July 28, 2013 12:00 AM

Boston Harbor offers paddlers a variety of interesting islands and destinations, yet is very close and convenient. The inner islands offer protection from waves, but boat traffic and channel crossings are the main hazards. This paddle will visit Spectacle, Georges, and other islands depending on wind, weather, and group. Plan on 12 miles (Level 2) of somewhat protected water with some channel crossings. Participants will need a boat > 15' with two hatches and spray skirt. Experience with level 1 trips and wet exits are mandatory.
