Young Members Kayaking along the Charles River

Join Michele Grzenda on a leisurely paddle along the Charles River. We'll begin our "3-hour tour" at the Charles River Canoe & Kayak in Newton. This location is on the Charles River Lakes District, an area with more than 100 years of canoeing history. We will paddle a portion of the 6-mile stretch of flatwater between the Rt. 16/Newton Lower Falls Dam and the Moody Street Dam. There is abundant wildlife along the river, including herons, otters, turtles, cormorants, muskrats, ducks, geese, and swans.

Ipswich River Paddle

Meet at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning at the Topsfield Fairgrounds PARKING LOT Entrance on RT 1 in Topsfield MA. If you are coming from the south, take RT 95 to RT 1 in Topsfield. Continue driving north on RT 1. You go down a long hill to the bottom where RT 1 crosses the Ipswich River. It is not obvious that you have crossed the Ipswich River, look carefully. Immediately ahead on the right is the Fair Grounds PARKING LOT Entrance. You should see a number of vehicles there with canoes on the roof. We will shuttle to the launch, which is on Rowley Bridge road.

Sudbury, Assabet and Concord RiverFest/Camp

Celebrate the SUASCO Wild and Scenic Rivers' Riverfest. Paddle all of the wild and scenic portions of the Sudbury and Concord rivers. Launch on the Sudbury River in Framingham, paddle 15 miles to camp (optional) at the Old Manse in Concord, with a shore component and lunch at Great Meadows in Sudbury. Visit the Old North Bridge and visitor center. Sanitary facilities, function tent for shelter from evening rain (it is not allowed to rain during the day) and s'mores will be provided. Bring your own water craft, life jacket, camping/cooking gear and food.

Fall Foliage Paddle with Optional Overnight

Launch on the Sudbury River at US 20 in Wayland, paddle 7 miles to camp site on Concord Land Conservation Trust's Brooke's (Scout) Island in Fairhaven Bay. A shore component is possible at Great Meadows' Weir Hill. Shorter or longer day trips may be arranged from/to different access points or if you don't want to camp. Sanitary facilities and campfire (ambiance only) will be provided. Bring your own camping/cooking gear and food. Cars will be shuttled in the morning to Wright Woods in Concord, a short paddle from the island.

Last Summer Paddle on the Assabet

Join us for an evening paddle along the Marlborough-Hudson stretch of the Assabet River. This lovely five mile river paddle takes you through narrow leafy sections, out into open meadows, and back through the forest before arriving in downtown Hudson. Paddle: 5 - 7 pm. Afterwards, the group will celebrate the beginning of fall at a local pub.If you have space in your boat and/or are able to arrive a little early to help shuttle cars, please let us know. Note: This section of the Assabet River is water level dependent. If the water is low, we will paddle elsewhere.

Annual River Cleanup

Join the Paddlers Committee for OARS 26th Annual River Cleanup from 9 am - noon on Saturday, September 15. Our team will work in Hudson, along the Assabet River. Or join another location along the Assabet, Sudbury, or Concord River in Acton, Concord, Framingham, Marlborough, Maynard, Northborough, Stow, Sudbury, Wayland, or Westborough. The morning of rewarding work, with friendly people, will be followed by a pizza celebration along the river! Volunteers should wear long pants and shoes that can get wet and dirty. Bring work gloves if you have them.
