Elizabeth Ryan is a four-season hiking and backpacking leader with the AMC's Boston Chapter as well as the coordinator for the chapter's Spring Hiking Program. She has completed the New Hampshire 4000 footers, hiked in the Baxter park area and explored some of the glaciated North-west peaks. Upcoming trips include hiking in the Scottish Highlands and Iceland.

Casey Ajalat

Casey leads trips year around for the hiking/backpacking committee of the AMC Boston Chapter. He often leads 3 Season and is heavily engaged in the H/B leadership and training programs such as Spring/Fall Leadership Training as well as our educational programs in the Spring and Winter Hiking Programs. Like other hiker that hike before sun up and after sun down and do 20+ miles, Casey likes to do the same only keep it under 10 miles :) He's experienced but not a speed daemon.

Slow-paced nature walk through forests and fields and around pond focusing on plant ID of bare trees, naked shrubs and winter weeds as the natural world prepares for winter. We'll also talk about fun and interesting natural history of the plants we see. 9:30am-12:30pm. From Rte. 2, Exit 59 go west on Rte. 60/Pleasant St. 0.6 miles. Right onto Clifton St., first left on Fletcher Rd., bear left at fork, next left on Juniper Rd. 0.2 miles to Sanctuary at #10 Juniper Rd. Steady rain or heavy snow cancels.

AMC Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program 2016-2017

KJ enjoys hiking in all seasons in the White Mountains. She is drawn to moderately paced day hikes of 10+ miles, with a growing curiosity about backpacking.

Map/Compass/Off-Trail Instructional Weekend

An annual AMC Boston Chapter tradition - fills quickly - register early to secure a spot! Comprehensive weekend Map and Compass course, based in North Woodstock, NH at a first-rate hostel. If you've always wanted to learn truly how to use a map and compass to plan and navigate the rough back country beyond the trails, this is the course for you. Due to unusual circumstances, this year's edition will feature 3 (it's usually 2) of the chapter's most experienced off-trail leaders. We'll cover maps, compass, planning, navigation, and intentional bushwhacking.

Bob Knudsen

Bob Knudsen leads trips year round and has taught Map & Compass for the Hiking/Backpacking Committee of the AMC Boston Chapter. He was leader/co-leader on two Adventure Travel backpacking trips to the Canadian Rockies. Bob has hiked the White Mountains for the past 9 years, and has completed the 48 NH four thousand foot peaks.

Joe Comuzzi

Joe is one of the Boston Chapter's most experienced and active trip leaders - his summit visits number in the quadruple digits. Included among the many outings he leads each year for the Chapter's Hiking/Backpacking Committee are the single-day Presidential Range traverse on the summer solstice, and the Map & Compass course in the fall. Hike with Joe a few times, and you're likely also to meet Paprika, the hiking hound.
