AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the AMC liability waiver, online registration is required for all in person AMC events.
Join the AMC Boston Young Members (20s and 30s/young at heart) to give back to the public lands we enjoy! On Saturday, April 13th we'll be hosting a friendly competition between members north and south of the river and heading to the Fells and the Blue Hills to see which team can pick up more trash. Come represent your side!
The Spy Pond trail project for 2019 will continue the work along the south end of the Pond that was started in 2005. The work planned for this year includes brushing out of the walkway and hardened shoreline access paths, brushing in side paths, and clearing any winter blow downs off the path. The Boston Chapter Conservation Committee will also be planting native species to stabilize the shoreline soil and provide wildlife habitat.
Join AMC Young Members for the Charles River Cleanup, one of the largest single-day river cleanups in the country. We will be volunteering at the Esplanade park near the Hynes Convention Center and Charles/MGH T stops (exact location details to come).
Join us as we celebrate Massachusetts Maple Month with a maple-themed tour at a local wildlife sanctuary!
From the Mass Audubon website:
On our naturalist-guided tours, learn how to identify a sugar maple, observe tapping and sap collection methods, watch the sap being boiled down in the sugarhouse, and get a sweet taste of the final product.

Nasja Mesa...the best unknown place to backpack in the world. Join Cambridge, MA photographer Harvey Halpern as he shows photos from his two latest long backpacks (33 and 24 days in length) on Nasja Mesa in Southern Utah. Harvey will also update you on the legal and political battle to reverse President Trump's illegal evisceration of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments, both in Utah.
Julie most enjoys leading challenging backpacks as well as fast-paced, full-day ridge traverses into the lesser-traveled corners of NH & ME. She also hosts the AMC Boston Slideshow Series and can be found helping out at the Boston Winter Hiking Program or leading winter hiking trips.

Family President's Day Weekend at AMC's Noble View Outdoor Center in the Pioneer Valley, about 1-1/2 hours west of Boston. Activities include hiking, snow shoeing, x-c skiing, and family 'snow fun' like sledding or making snow people! The accommodations are rustic, but comfortable and cozy, heated by wood stoves. The twin beds have mattresses, but we bring pillows, sheets, and blankets or sleeping bags. We need to be flexible regarding sleeping arrangements which may be co-ed to keep families together and some kids will be in sleeping bags on the floor.
The Social Life of Bears Presentation sponsored by the Boston Conservation Committee and Hiking and Backpacking Committee
Ben Kilham will share his fascinating observations, slides and videos, of bears in the wild as he follows cubs that have been rehabilitated and released. Learn how mother bears teach their cubs, and how bears share their territory when food is scarce.
Then learn from AMC and state wildlife experts how to respond to bear encounters on your hiking and camping trips.
Light refreshments will be served.
Join Boston's AMC young members to volunteer at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm and Wildlife Sanctuary! We will help work on the gardens around the Nature Center and gift shop. We will cut down the gardens for winter maintenance and remove some invasive plants that self-sowed there. Afterwards, we can also explore the farm and wildlife sanctuary.
Join AMC Young Members, along with the Somerville Conservation Commission and the Mystic River Watershed Association to pick up trash at Draw Seven Park as part of the annual statewide COASTSWEEP cleanup. Draw Seven State Park, along the Mystic River next to Assembly Square, is Somerville's only coastal property!
