AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the AMC liability waiver, online registration is required for all in person AMC events.

Ever wondered if an owl really is as smart as they say? Why don't we hear them when they fly? Just how far can an owl see? Come learn about owl calls, behavior and habitat. Join YM Leader and Naturalist, Michele Grzenda on an indoor and virtual presentation introducing the three most common owls in Massachusetts. By weekday, Michele protects wetlands and manages 2,000 acres of Open Space for Weston, MA. Besides leading backpacks, nature walks, and hikes for AMC, Massachusetts Audubon Society, & other local non-profits, Michele can be found on rainy nights in spring, helping frogs & salamanders cross the road on the way to vernal pools

Volunteer to improve shrub habitat at Drumlin Farm

Join AMC Boston's Young Members (20s/30s) to volunteer at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm and Wildlife Sanctuary! We will help improve the successional shrub habitat used by resident and migratory birds, as well as small mammals and other wildlife. Tasks will include pruning and lopping, among other things. Afterwards, we can explore the farm and wildlife sanctuary.

Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. If you have work gloves, bring them; otherwise Drumlin has loaner gloves you can use. Bring a water bottle - a must have! Sun protection is also recommended.

20s/30s: Volunteer for farm chores at Drumlin Farm, 10/27

Join AMC Boston's Young Members to volunteer at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm and Wildlife Sanctuary! This will be the last of our crops volunteer trips of the year - don't miss out! In September, we harvested six truckloads of pumpkins, squash, and gourds. In October, we harvested a few hundred pounds of tomatoes, beets, and potatoes. What will we help with next?! A few folks will also have the chance to help take down the Tales of the Night event decorations from the night before - think spiderwebs, graveyard, and other assorted spooky things.

Volunteer with AMC Young Members - Trash Pickup at Draw Seven Park

Join the Somerville Conservation Commission and the Mystic River Watershed Association to pick up trash at Draw Seven Park as part of the annual state-wide COASTSWEEP cleanup. This event will take place on Saturday, October 5 from 10am-12pm (rain date October 6). We will be meeting near the picnic area at the end of the parking lot. We will be outside for two hours picking up litter, so please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, as well as post-cleanup refreshments!

Introduction to Birding Family Walk at Cook Conservation Area, Lancaster MA

Join Lancaster Recreation in partnership with the AMC for a wonderful walk at Cook Conservation Area as we look for our feathered friends. The walk starts at 9 am and ends at 11 am at the trailhead off Route 70 in Lancaster, just south of Kimballs. There is a sign for the Cook Conservation Area on the road. This walk is open to anyone interested in enjoying a short walk through this beautiful natural area but is geared toward individuals interested in learning how to identify bird species. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars but some pairs will be available to borrow.

FREE Boston Light Family Harbor Cruise, Boston, MA

Join AMC Family Outings and Save the Harbor/Save the Bay for a free Hasrbor cruise to Boston LIghthouse Monday evening September 16. The cruise departs from the World Trade Center dock on the Provincetown II at 5:30 pm and returns to Boston at 7:30 pm. Boston Light is a lighthouse located on Little Brewster Island in outer Boston Harbor. We'll spend a few hours aboard the Provincetown II with wheelhouse narration about the history of the Boston Harbor Cleanup and the Boston Light Station by harbor historian David Coffin.
