Franconia Ridge Traverse (A3B)

Friday, July 10, 2015 12:00 AM to Sunday, July 12, 2015 12:00 AM

Ready to take in one of the premiere hikes in the northeast? Franconia Ridge is a world-class hike and only a short drive from the Boston area. This hike, nearly 12 miles in distance and over 4,100 feet in elevation gain, will test both your endurance and your vocabulary as you try to come up with the many superlatives it takes to describe the views up high on the ridge. This hike is suitable for intermediate-level hikers or beginner hikers with a high level of physical fitness. We hike leaders are not speedsters and will be taking a moderate, stop-and-smell-the-roses pace.

Madison Gulf backpack (A3A)

Saturday, July 18, 2015 12:00 AM to Sunday, July 19, 2015 12:00 AM

Madison Gulf Trail is one of the more adventurous trails up the fifth-highest mountain in New Hampshire. It is on the Terrifying Twenty-Five list and its headwall includes such challenges as "ledge outcrops, bouldery areas, and a rock chimney," and fantastic views. This is a two-day, one-night overnight; which day we summit Mt. Madison will be chosen depending on weather.

Mt. Jefferson the Long and Scenic Way (A3B)

Friday, August 14, 2015 12:00 AM to Sunday, August 16, 2015 12:00 AM

The 10-mile Castle Trail "follows the narrow, serrated ridge that runs northwest from Mt. Jefferson, providing magnificent views in a spectacular setting." The trail is long and rough, with 4,200 feet of elevation gain. If you are up to the challenge, join us for this slabby, steep scramble up the third highest mountain in New Hampshire. This hike is not a good choice for beginners, hikers who feel uncomfortable on rock slabs, or anyone with a fear of heights.

Fourth of July weekend at Chimney Pond, BSP (B3B)

Thursday, July 2, 2015 12:00 AM to Monday, July 6, 2015 12:00 AM

Chimney Pond, located in the Great Basin of Mt. Katahdin, is considered the most spectacular campground in Baxter State Park and "provides the best and closest access to all east side Katahdin trails." Spend four nights in a lean-to at Chimney Pond over Fourth of July weekend and, weather permitting, we will explore as many of the trails up Baxter (the main Katahdin summit and highest point in the state of Maine), Pamola, and Hamlin Peaks. Many of the trails available are rough and have a lot of exposure, and all of them are steep.
