Essex to Cape Ann Ramble

Sunday, July 28, 2019 12:00 AM

This weekend will be warm again, but Cape Ann should be cooler.

A 45 mile ramble from Essex to Manchester-by-the-Sea to Cape Ann and back. We shall stop at lighthouses, Rockport and Halibut State Park. Bring cash for ice cream. After the ride we shall meet for a late lunch at Woodman's of Essex.

You should be able to cycle 13-15 mph on the flats. You need bright clothes, flashy lights, spare inner tube, working bike and helmet. The roads can be busy with tourists sight seeing so being visible is very important.

Westminster-Winchedon-Templton-Barre Metric Century

Sunday, July 7, 2019 12:00 AM

Weather is suppose to be beautiful for biking on Sunday.

A friendly metric century in central Massachusetts with several ice cream stops on the quiet back roads and crush stone bike path. We will wait for people at turns. Turns are pretty far apart so there is plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs if want to ride faster. There are short cuts if you want a shorter ride but you will have to ride by yourself.

Lunch/ice cream at mile 35 in Barre after all the longer hills. There are also two places to stop for a quick swim.

East Bay Bike Path

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Join the Wednesday Wramblers for a fun day in beautiful Rhode Island as we enjoy an easy summer bike ride on the East Bay Bike Path between Providence and Bristol. Our roundtrip mileage will be approximately 28 miles on this mostly flat bike trail with beautiful ocean views. Plan to spend the day as we take time to explore Bristol's historic main street and waterfront. It is very likely that ice cream and fried clams will be consumed somewhere during or after the ride. Registration is required for this ride and we will send out information on the start location prior to the ride.

I began leading bike trips for the AMC in 1990 and led for ten years before taking a break. When I became active with the Forty Plus Committee I decided to start leading again. I took a refresher leadership course and Wilderness First Aid and now I am certified as a cross-country ski and bike leader. I have met many wonderful leaders and trip participants and Forty Plus has become one of my most enjoyable retirement activities.
