AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the AMC liability waiver, online registration is required for all in person AMC events.
Cycle 38 or 28 miles(with a Lexington start) to Carlisle. Route follows mostly quiet back roads and bike paths through Arlington, Lexington, Concord, Bedford and Carlisle. Pace will average a friendly 12-14 mph. Route has a few hills.
Meet by the Uncle Sam statue in Arlington Center on the Minuteman Trail at 10:30 AM, or the Minuteman Statue in Lexington at 11:00 AM. Start is accessible from Alewife T-station. If you are interested, you will need a working bike, spare inner tube, bike helmet, and BRIGHT warm clothes.
Beginner instructional and easy ride. We will meet at a local (Eastern Mass or RI) rail-trail parking lot to review bicycling basics like shifting, signaling, tire inflation, proper helmet position, group protocol and the like before heading out together on a 10-12 mile ride at an easy pace with no significant hills. Join us on a ride on the Nashua Rail Trail along a varied landscape, offering numerous scenic overlooks, opportunities to see wildlife, all amidst the full splendor of the autumn season. The Rail Trail travels through the towns of Ayer, Groton, Pepperell and Dunstable and offers a 10-foot wide paved surface for the entire length.
We will plan to meet in Ayer Center at the 60 paved-space parking lot.
(Intermediate) Follow the Leader Ride. Approx. 20 miles some hills, starting andending at farm pond in Sherborn. Must have helmet, water, good bike,ability to keep the 13-15 mph pace. Moderate paced 36/47 mile ride starting in Hingham. 24 miles will be along the scenic coast and beaches of Scituate and Cohasset and Hull. Those interested in more swimming can skip Hull and spend time at Sandy Beach.
If you are interested, you will need a working bike, spare tire, bike helmet, bright clothes and sun block. Swim suit and towel optional. You will also need cash for ice cream stops and lunch.
